Tondano, 12 August 2026 — The Department of Chemistry, FMIPAK Universitas Negeri Manado (UNIMA), officially commenced the Odd Semester of the 2026/2027 Academic Year by holding an Inaugural Lecture featuring Dr. Meiske N. Mamuaja, M.Si. The event took place in the Department’s Seminar Room (2nd Floor) and was attended by lecturers and students from all study programs, including the Bachelor of Chemistry Education, Bachelor of Chemistry, Master of Chemistry, and Doctoral Program in Chemistry.

Dr. Meiske N. Mamuaja delivered a lecture titled “Flavonoids: Plant Defense Troops Becoming Human Weapons Against Disease.” Her presentation explored the role of flavonoids as bioactive compounds that function not only as natural defense mechanisms in plants but also as promising therapeutic agents for human health. The lecture provided students with deeper insight into the intersection of natural product chemistry, biomedical applications, and opportunities for research development.

The Head of the UNIMA Chemistry Department, Dr. Anderson A. Aloanis, M.Si, expressed his appreciation for the speaker’s willingness to share her expertise. He emphasized that the inaugural lecture serves as an important momentum to build academic enthusiasm at the start of the semester and to strengthen the scientific culture within the department.

“This activity is expected to serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for the entire academic community of the Chemistry Department as we begin this semester,” he stated.

Through this inaugural lecture, students gained broader perspectives on research opportunities in natural product chemistry, particularly flavonoids, and their relevance in advancing scientific knowledge and medical applications. The event also marked the department’s commitment to fostering a productive and innovative academic atmosphere throughout the semester.
