The Chemistry Department of FMIPAK, Universitas Negeri Manado, continues to strengthen its internationalization efforts through a guest lecture held on 8 September 2025 featuring Prof. Dr. Jalifah binti Latip from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). During her visit, Prof. Jalifah not only delivered a scientific lecture on organic chemistry and natural products but also expressed her readiness to facilitate international collaboration between the Chemistry Department UNIMA and UKM.
Prof. Jalifah, an expert in the exploration of natural and synthetic chemical compounds with medical potential and molecular structure analysis, emphasized that cross‑country academic and research collaboration is essential for enhancing the quality of education and scientific research. She opened opportunities for cooperation covering student and staff exchange programs, joint research, and international publications.
The meeting also included a focused discussion on curriculum development across all study programs within the Chemistry Department, namely the Bachelor of Chemistry Education, Bachelor of Chemistry, Master of Chemistry, and Doctoral Program in Chemistry. The discussion addressed curriculum alignment with Outcome‑Based Education (OBE), research integration, and opportunities for embedding international academic activities with partners such as UKM.
Specifically, the Doctoral Program in Chemistry reaffirmed its implementation of a Research‑Based Education (RBE) curriculum, positioning research as the core of doctoral learning—from topic formulation, supervision, seminars, and research milestones to international publication requirements.
Through this momentum, the Chemistry Department UNIMA is increasingly optimistic about building a strong academic reputation while contributing to the advancement of chemical sciences for society, the environment, and the health sector.
