Tareran, 7 August 2026 — The Chemistry Department of FMIPAK Universitas Negeri Manado carried out a Community Service Program (PkM) at SMA Negeri 1 Tareran, introducing the Small Scale Laboratory (SSL) approach as a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly strategy for chemistry learning.
Led by Abdon Saiya, S.Si., M.Si. and Stefan Rumengan, S.Si., M.Si., the activity involved UNIMA Chemistry students who assisted in preparing materials, guiding practicum sessions, and documenting the event. Through SSL, students conducted experiments using reaction volumes of 0.5–2 mL with simple tools such as well plates, micro droppers, and mini test tubes—helping schools overcome limited laboratory resources while reducing chemical waste and safety risks.
The team also provided training on laboratory safety (K3), proper use of personal protective equipment, and safe handling of chemicals and waste. The program is designed for sustainability through practicum modules, teacher mentoring, and potential replication in other schools.
This initiative reinforces the commitment of the Chemistry Department of FMIPAK UNIMA to advancing science education in North Sulawesi through innovative, safe, and hands‑on chemistry learning.
