On 8 September 2025, the Department of Chemistry, FMIPAK Universitas Negeri Manado (UNIMA), held a guest lecture featuring Prof. Dr. Jalifah binti Latip, a lecturer and researcher from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The event, conducted in the faculty hall, was attended by lecturers, students, and members of the academic community of the UNIMA Chemistry Department.
In her lecture, Prof. Dr. Jalifah binti Latip shared insights based on her expertise in organic chemistry and natural products, focusing on the exploration of natural and synthetic chemical compounds with biological activity and potential applications in the medical field. She also emphasized the importance of utilizing modern analytical instruments for molecular structure determination, which is a crucial component of contemporary chemical research.
The material presented broadened students’ perspectives on interdisciplinary research opportunities, ranging from developing natural products into potential drug candidates to applying advanced instrumentation techniques for chemical compound characterization.
In his remarks, the Head of the UNIMA Chemistry Department, Dr. Anderson Aloanis, expressed his appreciation for Prof. Dr. Jalifah binti Latip’s willingness to share her knowledge and experience. He highlighted that international guest lectures such as this serve as strategic steps to enhance academic quality, expand research networks, and strengthen the department’s internationalization efforts.
Through this activity, students not only gained inspiration to pursue research in organic chemistry and natural products but also became more motivated to engage in global research collaborations.
