Chemistry PKM Teams Shine Again, Elevating UNIMA’s Name on the National Stage

Two teams from the Chemistry Department, FMIPAK UNIMA, achieved remarkable success at the PKM AMLI 2025 competition. Both teams earned awards in two categories: Scientific Article (AI) and Written Futuristic Idea (GFT). This achievement demonstrates the Chemistry Department’s consistent record of producing innovative work while maintaining a strong national academic reputation.

In the Written Futuristic Idea category, the team presenting “Flying Forest of the Archipelago: Reforestation Innovation Using AI-Enabled Drone Fleets” won the silver medal in Room 2 GFT and secured the third-best national ranking in the GFT scheme. Known as Drone Natura, the team was led by Nathaniel Dave Emmanuel Pieter, with members Rahma Syifa Djafar, Praisy Mandias, Rafael Lodewik Kussoy Tendean, and Rommy Chandra Limunandar, under the guidance of Nci Miftahul Jannah, S.Si., M.Si. Their proposed innovation introduces a modern reforestation method that utilizes drones and artificial intelligence to accelerate replanting in critical areas efficiently and accurately.

In the Scientific Article category, Team Startomol, with their work “Strategies and Planning for Teachers in Teaching Organic Compounds and Macromolecules to 12th Grade Students in Indonesia,” won the bronze medal in Room 1 AI. The team was led by Efelien Ulundeda, with members Stevani Rosadelima Kolompoy, Rumintang Lumban Batu, Jenneta L. Riahta Br Bangun, and Regina Arsad, guided by Stefan Marco Rumengan, M.Si. Their article addresses the challenges teachers face in teaching advanced chemistry topics and proposes more effective learning approaches to enhance students’ understanding of organic compounds and macromolecules.

These achievements complement previous successes of the Chemistry Department, including Team ChemLit XR reaching the finals of Pimnas 38. The accomplishments also highlight students’ ability to balance academic excellence with active participation in organizations. For instance, Stevani Rosadelima Kolompoy, Chair of the Chemistry Student Association (HMJ), is also a member of Team PKM Startomol. HMJ Secretary Maria Murniyanti Parhusip was part of Team ChemLit XR, which advanced to Pimnas, while Adeleidi Gracia Klara Mandagi earned the university-level ON MIPA Chemistry championship and was runner-up in AMLI Porseni’s Mobile Legends event.

Nearly all participants from the Chemistry Department in PKM AMLI and Belmawa also actively serve as student organization leaders at both department and faculty levels. This reflects the department’s ability to cultivate students who can balance academic and extracurricular commitments effectively. The success at PKM AMLI 2025 is a testament to the Chemistry Department’s commitment to fostering creative, high-achieving students ready to compete nationally.

Department of Chemistry FMIPA UNIMA Welcomes Educational Visit from Students of SMA Negeri 1 Motoling

Tondano, November 7, 2025 — The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics, Natural and Earth Sciences (FMIPAK), Universitas Negeri Manado (UNIMA), welcomed an educational visit from students of SMA Negeri 1 Motoling. The activity was part of a program designed to introduce high school students in North Sulawesi to the campus environment and university-level chemistry laboratories.

The delegation, consisting of 120 students and accompanying teachers, was warmly received by Secretary of the Department of Chemistry, Septiani Palilingan, M.Si, along with lecturers and laboratory assistants. In her opening remarks, she emphasized that the Department of Chemistry UNIMA is open to collaboration with schools to provide students with hands-on exposure to applied chemistry.

“Through activities like this, we hope to foster students’ interest in chemistry and demonstrate how chemical concepts are applied in research and everyday life,” she said.

During the visit, students toured several laboratories, including Basic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry Labs. Lecturers and laboratory assistants explained the function of laboratory instruments, safety procedures, and simple experiments that can be conducted at the high school level.

Students also had the opportunity to perform several practical experiments under the direct guidance of lecturers and laboratory staff. Their enthusiasm was evident, as participants actively asked questions and engaged with equipment that they normally only see in textbooks.

A representative teacher from SMA Negeri 1 Motoling expressed gratitude to the Department of Chemistry UNIMA for the warm welcome and the learning opportunities provided.

“Our students are very excited to experience university-level laboratory practices. This motivates them to pursue further studies in the field of science,” the teacher said.

Through this initiative, the Department of Chemistry UNIMA reaffirmed its commitment to actively participating in educational and community outreach activities, while strengthening the relationship between higher education institutions and secondary schools to nurture a generation of young people who love science and possess a strong scientific character.

Department of Chemistry UNIMA Strengthens International Collaboration through Community Service Program with UNNES and Sogang University

The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Manado (UNIMA), held an international-scale Community Service Program (PkM) in collaboration with Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) and Sogang University, South Korea.

The activity, themed “Strengthening Teacher Competence through FabLab, Micro-Kit, TPACK, and Chemoentrepreneurship,” took place on October 29, 2025, at the UNIMA Training Center.

This program focused on enhancing the competence of chemistry teachers in the digital era through innovative teaching approaches, including the application of FabLab (Fabrication Laboratory)-based learning, the development of micro-kits for chemistry experiments, the integration of TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) into teaching practice, and the strengthening of chemoentrepreneurship as an approach that integrates chemistry and entrepreneurship.

Head of the Department of Chemistry FMIPA UNIMA, Dr. Anderson Aloanis, M.Si, stated that this program represents a strategic step in reinforcing international collaboration and expanding the impact of community service in the field of chemistry education.

“This collaboration brings together academics from different countries to jointly develop innovative and applicable chemistry learning models for teachers and pre-service teachers in Indonesia,” he said.

A representative from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) added that this program serves as a concrete example of inter-university cooperation in improving the quality of science education at the secondary school level.

The event featured interactive activities, including workshops on developing micro-kit teaching aids, TPACK-based technology training, and chemoentrepreneurship sessions highlighting the importance of eco-friendly chemical product innovation based on local resources.

All participants, consisting of chemistry teachers and pre-service educators, showed great enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the training and discussions.

Through this initiative, the Department of Chemistry, FMIPAK UNIMA reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a pioneer in developing innovative chemistry education that is adaptive to technological advancement and provides real contributions to both society and the education sector.
